  • 3 cups of peeled, cored and sliced granny smith apples
  • 1 tsp cinnamon, seperated
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • juice from 1/2 a lemon
  • salt

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees celsius. Lightly grease a 20cm x 20cm ovenproof dish.
  2. Mix 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon and juice of one lemon to the sliced apples and mix. Add the apples to your prepared dish, flatten them as much as you can.
  3. Add the flour, salt, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and sugar. Mix well. Add the softened butter and use two knives or your fingertips to roughly mix the butter into the flour mixture. There should be small chunks of butter in the crumble. The butter shouldn’t be fully incorporated or smooth (creamed).
  4. Sprinkle the crumb over the apples and place in the oven. Bake for 20-30mins or until the crumble is beautifully golden brown.
  5. Allow the apple crumble to cool down slightly and serve with some whipped cream, ice cream, or custard. Delicious!
