EASY Red Velvet Cupcakes | Small Batch

A red velvel cupcake held by Lila Lerie's hand

Red velvet cupcakes have a way of making even an ordinary day feel a little more put together. Maybe it’s the dramatic colour, the hint of cocoa, or the fact that cream cheese frosting instantly makes anything feel bakery-worthy. Whatever the reason, this small batch recipe delivers six perfectly soft red velvety cupcakes — ideal for when you want something special without committing to two dozen leftovers sitting on the counter.

The cupcake batter comes together with simple ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt for the dry mix, while buttermilk, oil, egg, vanilla essence, red food colouring, and a splash of white vinegar create that signature tender crumb red velvet is known for. The cocoa flavour is subtle rather than overpowering, giving these cupcakes their classic balance between chocolatey and slightly tangy.

Once baked and cooled, the red velvety cupcakes are topped with a smooth cream cheese frosting made with butter and powdered sugar — rich enough to feel indulgent, but still light and fluffy. A scattering of white chocolate over the top finishes them off with a little extra sweetness and just enough flair to make them look like they came straight from a bakery window.

This red velvety cupcakes recipe is proof that small batch baking has its advantages. Six cupcakes is exactly enough for a celebration, a weekend baking session, or simply satisfying a red velvet craving without finding yourself still eating cupcakes three days later.
